WORLD HERITAGE MUSIC FESTIVAL 2006 KYOTO, SHIMOGAMO JINJA

As part of a project to enjoy an authentic classical music concert with a World Heritage Site of Kyoko as the stage, I was entrusted to provide lighting for a concert of one of the new Three Greatest Tenors at the Shimogamo Shrine. I considered the entire site as the stage; instead of solely concentrating on accentuating the shrine building, I produced a light-up of the entire environment including even the trees so as to express the uniqueness of the shrine surrounded by the Tadasu-no-Mori forest.

At the Hashidono Hall, the main stage, I produced a restrained lighting performance that was arranged in accordance with the songs in addition to softly lighting the background gilt folding screen and ikenobo-style ikebana. Just at the beginning of the concert, an egret, crossing the night sky, was reflected in a beam of light, and I can still vividly recall that awe-inspiring image.
