In this campus, there was already a relatively new building to which were added a café (Segaffredo) and a restaurant (Ginza Sicilia). The famous architect Shigeru Ban, having been entrusted with the design, asked Akari-Lisa Ishii for a new collaboration. The places attract students and teachers but also neighbors. You can meet mothers with their toddlers, elderly people... It's an oasis in the newly constructed neighborhood.
I.C.O.N. therefore carefully studied the location of each light source in order to ensure the visual comfort of users and the quality of light. And of course, to enhance the architecture, mainly in cardboard and wood, and to create a warm and welcoming atmosphere.
The architect used his "signature", cardboard tubes, for example in the restaurant to make a very ornamented ceiling with different "honeycombs" structures in various diameters. The lighting fixtures are integrated right into the design, regularly in the layout, in order to sublimate it and illuminate the space uniformely, and as discreetly as possible. This mission became more complex in the curving ceiling part which required linear LEDs combining direct and indirect lighting in order to highlight waves and tables beneath.
For the first time in Japan, SBA realized the wooden ceiling in louvers in a particular shape. Here too, the lighting required precise integration into the small space between them, in a subtle but very effective way.
