A new opera, whose main character is the son of “Madame Butterfly,” has been introduced to the Puccini Festival, held each summer at Torre del Lago, the place of Puccini’s final resting spot in Tuscany, Italy. Working as the lighting assistant, I decided to take this opportunity to study languages for a short time in Italy. As it was an outdoor theatre, there was the restrictive condition that lighting adjustment could only be performed from 10 pm until 4 am. Nevertheless, thanks to the great collaboration between Japanese production staff and the local technical team, it was possible to produce lighting with magical effects.
