LYON FESTIVAL OF LIGHTS, “PLATONIUM”

For this largest and best festival of light art in the world, where millions of visitors gather, Eric Michel and Akari-Lisa Ishii realized an ambitious art-science work, in collaboration with CNRS. This installation, located in the heart of the City Hall, is inspired by the advanced scientific researches in Lyon. Platonium leads you to a dark atrium, the Cave, a constellation of sixteen video screens of scientific images selected for their artistic impact. The second area in the main courtyard, the Vortex, consists of a monumental structure of light strips of six meters high, animated by an impressive sound and light, plunging into the mirror on the central floor and playing with facades and fountain.

This hyper-structure is a unique assembly of thin strips of fiber optics, investigated as a possible tool for air and water purification, was awarded by the Recylum Trophy. Behind this work lies a prodigious scientific dimension that everyone can explore on www.cnrs.fr/platonium.
