This lighting project accompany the development of a large-scale eco-neighbourhood combining housing, offices, shops and public facilities, forming an extension of the town centre near the Swiss border. The lighting design has been conceived to balance the quality of public spaces with the preservation of biodiversity, by minimising light pollution towards natural areas, gardens and building façades through the use of asymmetrical optics. Colour temperatures are tailored to human activities and biodiversity. Illuminance levels are adjusted according to the use of roads and footpaths, with particular attention paid to the ‘black belt’, ecological corridors and the future development of the district. This adaptive strategy also incorporates dimming and presence-detection systems to reduce environmental impact whilst ensuring the comfort and safety of users.
