EXHIBITION “BALENCIAGA, L’OEUVRE AU NOIR“

MUSÉE BOURDELLE - FRANCE - 2017
PARIS

EXHIBITION “BALENCIAGA, L’OEUVRE AU NOIR“

This very beautiful exhibition inaugurated the Spanish season of the Musée Galliera (the Museum of Fashion) in Paris. Akari-Lisa Ishii realized a lighting adapted to a particular scenography mixing couturier Balenciaga pieces dialoguing with those of the master sculptor Bourdelle.
Thus, the highlights of lace, silk velvet, dresses, boleros, mantillas ... came to take place in the very heart of the museum, in the middle of the sculptures. An original concept that the lighting had to enhance.

The challenge of this lighting design was obviously to valorize the works, but above all to work with this mixture of materials.
Another challenge lay in the color, exclusively black, of these works, which the lighting designer has nevertheless revealed despite the limited illuminance level for their preservation. These fragile materials must be treated with the utmost care.
