On Saturday October 1st, in collaboration with artist Zorica Matic, Akari-Lisa Ishii worked on an installation as part of the Nuit Blanche 2022 in Sainte Claire d'Assise Church, la Villette, Paris. Nuit Blanche is an annual artistic event that takes place throughout the night. The city opens museums, cultural institutions and other public or private spaces to the public, for free to present rigorously selected artistic installations and performances. Our realization was integrated in the North route of the event and received a steady stream of visitors throughout the evening.
The Hourglass of Light at the intersection of arts and science imagined by Zorica Matic in which the Nature creates the artwork, at the same time, the experience of time. This hybrid installation uses artificial light and living light thanks to bioluminescence. It is considered one of the potential solutions for the future of public lighting after the energy restriction.
Echoing this, a sound and light scenography designed by Akari-Lisa Ishii accompanied the hourglass for a sensory and contemplative experience inspired by the aquatic universe and the notion of time slowed down at the bottom of the ocean.
Careful mediation allowed visitors to grasp its subtlety as well as technological and artistic complexity.
