As airport VIP lounges are places where their brand is expressed, airlines compete with each other to create the most elaborate interiors and services. It is therefore no surprise that Air France, which sells a very stylish image, has put a lot of effort into the lounges in its home base of Paris. In French “brand image” projects, there is often a curious cohabitation between the designers, who are responsible for the aesthetic aspects of the interior, and the architects, who are responsible for the technical aspects of the project, in particular its compatibility with the building in which it is located, and the feasibility of the design. Lighting also has an important role to play in ensuring that architectural spaces, which are undoubtedly magnificent but sometimes fanciful, genuinely work and are suited to their intended use. The lighting design must create a relaxing, high-quality, and pleasant space, even during the stressful moments of pre-boarding and transit, while embodying the Air France brand image and taking into account the planned functionalities: buffets, meeting rooms, etc. We would even have liked to do something more daring and unexpected.
