ZERI JAPAN was to exhibit a pavilion themed around the marine environment at the Expo Osaka Kansai. Shigeru Ban, the architect, asked us to light up the exterior of the pavilion.
As soon as we saw the original design of the giant white domes floating on the water, we came up with a number of ideas to reproduce the beautiful scene of the sea with waves lapping. After multifaceted reflections and experimentation, a proposal with colored lighting embedded in the water was adopted in consideration of the daytime landscape. The lighting scenario, which is reminiscent of rays of light reflecting on the water, was matched by the ripples created by the wind blowing through the site and the mist emanating from the surface of the dome, resulting in a fantastically ever-changing expression of the light.
We hope it will contribute to the liveliness of the night at the Expo.
