"HERMES IN THE MAKING" EXHIBITION, COPENHAGEN

Akari-Lisa Ishii’s work on the traveling exhibition continues. After the 1st edition in Copenhagen, it is exported to Europe, the United States, Asia... Its lighting concept must constantly be declined more or less frequently. For each place and each country, she adapt her lighting to enhance the scenography, the comfort of the visitors and the work of the craftsmen of scarves, bags, jewellery... (adjustments on the materials, make the shine, magnify the colors etc. ).

The artisanal and industrial workshop atmosphere, like daylight treated by pendant lamps, plus enhancement of products by a warmer white light of spotlights are the guiding line to follow : sometimes with the fixtures of the venue, sometimes with rental devices, sometimes with more scenic ones…; some halls have existing lighting tracks so required to adapt to the ceiling height and the new layout etc. The installation teams are also very different : in Turin, more accustomed to the cinema, in Detroit, more connected to Broadway, in Copenhagen, more museum oriented…

The magnificent scenography reveals the materials and the craftsmanship. Its quality requires great subtlety in the lighting. For example, the sections of colored walls where the objects are hung are made of thick grids with a mirror in the background, a great challenge, especially to highlight three-dimensional objects such as porcelain (for exemple, this small segement of partition requires 6 sophisticated spotlights for correct lighting).
