The work of lighting design is like painting a picture but with paint called light on black canvas called darkness. The lighting designer’s mission is to come up with ideas for illuminating our contemporary nightscapes so flooded in light pollution in ways more beautiful, comfortable, and efficient, and then to bring this to reality accurately and swiftly. Lighting is not simply about lighting things up. It expresses an identity, symbolizes a policy and conveys a message
Akari-Lisa Ishii participated in a “dialogue with the master” entitled “Light Culture the East & the West” in occasion of the Zhurong awards (one of China's biggest lighting awards).
It was a dialogue-conference with Carry Yu, ex-president of the Chinese Lighting Designers’ Association, around a series of key words with illustrations and comments. Each "master" develops the subject around the same theme but the dialogue is always different. She had good feedback from the huge auditorium.
Readers of LUX magazine enjoyed Akari-Lisa Ishii and her view on the Salone di Milano. The designer spent an intense and interesting week to visit, to get inspired and to deliver relevant trends analysis in her article. She describes the new artistic corners, the multiplication of outdoor solutions, the technology mixed with decoration, recyclability, modularity…. Obviously the pleasure of aesthetic discoveries and meeting up with international friends from the world of design among the crowd of visitors was a great bonus.
Akari-Lisa Ishii was invited to be a part of the COMMITTEE ON JAPANESE ARCHITECTURAL CULTURE, set up by the Ministry of Culture of Japan. She does believe it’s very meaningful because this subject is surprisingly unknown for the Japanese population. Since March, 3 sessions have been carried out to highlight the achievements, the notoriety of Japanese modern architects, the heritage etc., with many relevant discussions thanks to the quality of the members.
