Since 2019, in early November each year, we have created a video work on the theme of hydrogen energy, a promising source, for a public event dedicated to energy and lighting held in Ueno Park. The event is part of the city of Tokyo’s drive to promote this type of energy, and the video projector used is powered by hydrogen-powered vehicles. Over these years, we’ve been trying to convey the characteristics and mechanisms of this new energy source through entertaining, easy-to-understand videos. To avoid looking like educational material, the theme is addressed using different approaches and different expressions, under the following headings: "The bright future with hydrogen energy", "Hydrogen energy & the Nature", "Earth-friendly Hydrogen Energy", "Hydrogen Energy and our Life" and "The World of Hydrogen". We projected the videos onto the facade of National Museum of Nature and Science and synchronised the architectural illuminations with a dynamic scenario. With such a large projection in a public place, we want to give as many visitors as possible the chance to find out more about environmentally-friendly energy sources. Because when the electricity supply will regain a certain stability, we can remain optimistic about the future of lighting design.
