At the occasion of the centenary of Rodin's death, on November 17, 2017, his statue "La Défense" was set up at the Seine Musical (a new iconic hall in Boulogne-Billancourt).
For this legendary piece, Akari-Lisa Ishii created a minimalist lighting that emphasizes the complex form to reveal it even when you see it from afar.
Thanks to the Region of Hauts-de-Seine, owner of the mold, this controversial sculpture, refused once in 1870, finally sees the day (and the night light!).
The statue placed in the middle of the grand staircase overlooking the esplanade seems to watch over the passers-by, as its original function. A slight lighting was added on the background (on the upper staircase) to underline the dark work’s silhouette against clear steps.
Because of this particular location and artistic specificity, the design of its lighting had to give it visibility while remaining accurate and appropriate. Thus, the color temperature of the light on the statue is colder than that for the surrounding area to enhance its green bronze color.
