JAPANITALY, “LIGHT MESSAGE FROM JAPAN IN ROME“

While a G8 summit was taking place at the earthquake-disaster-zone of L’Aquila, central Italy, an event to introduce Japanese culture was held on Tiberina Island on the river Tiber, in Rome. On the stone bridge and river wall installation surrounding the island, we implemented a special light-up using white and red of the Japanese flag as the motif.

Filters were carefully selected to create the vivid Japanese red, and a contrast was realized between this and the white light, which accentuated the surface of the limestone rock. It was an installation just for a brief moment, like depicting a dream in which the sun of the land of the rising sun appears. The local lighting team were lighting professionals of the Italian cinema industry. A remarkable level of cooperation was established through communication using the language of light, and the event was a big success.
