EXHIBITION
“LES NOUVEAUX PARIS”

An urban planning exhibition, for which Toyo Ito was in charge of the exhibition space’s design, was being planned at the Arsenal Pavilion in Paris, and I was requested to design the lighting.

When I saw the scenography scheme with soft white cloth stretched around the site, an idea came to me to produce a light space creating an effect of being shrouded in white mist. In contrast, in the sections facing the double-volumed area, exhibition cases inserted inside aluminum grids were positioned in a way to look like the windows of high-rise buildings. I created an interior atmosphere to the curtain and the sense of outdoor lighting to the grid by applying contrasts with light hues. Although it was hard to control the lighting of an exhibition space in which daylight entered, after sundown, the space was filled with comfortable and gentle light.
