DAIWA ROYNET HOTEL TOKYO KYOBASHI

DAIWA ROYNET HOTEL TOKYO KYOBASHI

At the beginning of February 2020, the opening ceremony was held for our 3rd Daiwa Roynet Hotel after Ariake and Kyoto. We are in charge of the exterior lighting and supervision on the interior, too. The collaboration with the architect is always a pleasure. Every time, the lighting sublimates the architecture design in different way, liaised with its urban context. This time, in Kyobashi, we created 3 lighting scenarios for the facade with elegant lighting stream, corresponding to the rhythm of the heart of Tokyo. For interior public spaces (lobby, corridors, etc.), the exchanges with the architect were fruitful. Feedback from the client is: "well done, well lit", despite a limited ceiling height and large glazings.

Each window frame is contoured by light coming from a discreet devise which achieves a classy light effect. The idea is simple but original, seen on no other building in Japan. The beam is very sharp thanks to a precise choice of fixtures in which the source is completely invisible. Even from the inside, you can't see it. This architectural effect generates a slow diagonal light stream on the 1st scenario. Another dims the building up and down like a gentle urban heartbeat. The 3rd is a movement from one side to another by column of windows, at pedestrians’ speed. We thus create a beautiful night image for this business hotel and a special presence for it in the urban fabric in correlation with the rhythm of night life (different according to the cities).
